The brown 3 Rpf stamp was required before the special cancellation could be added, however, this stamp whose only purpose was to secure a special cancellation, was also known used as a normal stamp on postal items. This had been a Reichspost experiment.
21st March 1943. Armed Forces and Heroes Day
One of the best sets produced during the war, it was this set that got me interested in Third Reich stamps in my early days.
It may be of interest for you to know why the 21st March was chosen as the anniversary for the armed forces and heroes day? The date was chosen just after the First World War and it had been on "21st March 1918" that the last German offensive "Kaiserschlacht" or Operation Michel was launched. ( The WW1 version of the Battle of the Bulge).
